June 6, 2010 Voss Motorsports tackles the Baja 500 42nd Tecate SCORE Baja 500 Voss Motorsports was the 19th Trophy Truck off the starting line for the 42nd annual Baja 500. There was a total of 42 Trophy Trucks entered in the race, a record amount for the SCORE Baja 500. Jason, Rich and the whole Voss Motorsports team had spent an entire 10 days in Baja pre-running and preparing for the race. The # 35 Trophy Truck was geared up to battle for the win. However, the rugged baja terrain had a different plan for the #35 Trophy Truck. Rich Voss and co-pilot James East started the race and had worked their way up through the class to a very respectful 9th position, only to soon face a series of flat tires around mile marker 170. While struggling in the dust the #35 Trophy Truck bounced off of a couple rocks earning itself three flat tires in a matter of only 30 miles. With only two spare tires on board the truck, they were forced to drive on the wheel until they could find a pit. The first pit that they came across was the pit of a fellow General Tire racer Kent Kroeker. Thanks to Kent Kroeker’s team Voss Motorsports was back on the track and racing to their next pit. Mile 220 is where Jason Voss was going to get in the truck. The driver change lasted 23 minutes due to a ripped break line from one of the tires. Along with changing the break line the team also changed all four tries, dumped 60 gallons of fuel, and fixed a leaking third member. With the truck fixed and looked over Jason Voss and co-pilot Johnny Niewoehner had a plan to just make it to the finish line. Jason and Johnny kept a good pace and were able to work they way up through the pack to a 14th place finish. The 14th place finish wasn’t what Voss Motorsports was hoping for, but any finish in Baja is a reason to celebrate. Voss Motorsports would like to thank all of their sponsors for helping them get to the finish line: General Tire, Jimco, KC HiLites, Mastercraft, TrailReady, Teasdale Quality Foods, and Fox Racing Shox Also a Special Thanks to Kent Kroeker’s team for lending us a tire and wheel.
