2009 Season Recap

Fresh off their Baja 1000 win in the protruck class, Voss Motorsports entered the 2009 season with high hopes. Shortly before the Parker 425 race in February, the team decided to step up their ranks and enter the unlimited trophy truck class. With limited time, Voss Motorsports bought Clyde Stout’s old “prophy truck” and began a complete rebuild to have it ready for the Parker 425. Jason and Rich placed 4th in class and 11th overall, giving the team excitement for the 2009 season.

In March, Jason teamed up with Rob Reinerston in the SNORE General Tire Mint 400 to claim a victory for the #234 Ford Protruck.

Although there is never enough time to prep a truck, the team felt confident entering the Terrible’s 250 in April with the adjustments made from Parker. A mishap with the driveshaft getting caught on a rock and a few flat tires left Voss Motorsports 7th in class and 16th overall. Still not bad for their second Trophy Truck class race.

On April 23rd Voss Motorsports excitedly signed a deal with Mike Julson, owner of Jimco Racing Inc., to take delivery on a brand new Trophy Truck. The truck was built insanely quick, ready to race at the Bilek 300, showing the team’s classic white and blue look.

Leading the race on time with only 50 miles to go, the truck caught fire putting them out of the race. The whole plan was to race the Bilek 300 in order to get some seat time in the truck before heading to Mexico for the Baja 1000. The fire was going to be a huge set back, but Voss Motorsports was determined to rebuild the truck and head for Baja. Without the help of Jimco Racing, Voss Motorsports would have never gotten it done. With only a couple days to spare the truck was ready and Voss motorsports headed to Placer City to do some testing in the truck while on their way to Mexico.

However, once south of the boarder Voss’s luck didn’t change much. At race mile 65 Rich Voss lost a ring and pinion in the trophy truck. The pit crew with the spare ring and pinion was 4 hrs away down the peninsula. Needless to say Rich Voss and co-pilot James East got the new ring and pinion in the truck and headed on their way, only to loose a transmission at race mile 77 where Voss Motorsports decided to pack up and head back to the states to figure what was haunting them with their new truck.

Next, was the Henderson 400 race. After not having any luck in Mexico Voss Motorsports decided to race the Henderson race to once again get some seat time in the new truck and to try and figure out what was causing their transmission problems. Once again at race mile 40ish Rich Voss lost a driveshaft and a transmission. Now, Voss Motorsports definitely knew that something was wrong with the truck and that there had to be a problem causing all of this.

Voss Motorsports headed home with the truck and began to tear it down and started looking at the basics. The team plans on spending some extensive testing time out in the desert the week before the Parker 425 pre-run on January 9th. Voss Motorsports will post some updates on what they discover about the truck after their week of testing.

Voss Motorsports would like to thank: Jimco Racing Inc., General Tire, KC HiLites, Trail Ready Beadlocks, Mastercraft, Teasdale Quality Foods and AEM Air Filters for all of their support in the 2009 season as they look forward to a successful 2010 season in their Jimco truck. The Voss Motorsports team would also like to congratulate Andy and Scott McMillin on their very successful 2009 championship season!
